I am passionate about my state and I believe that Idahoans deserve a representative that will fight their interests instead of the big-money corporations. I believe that every Idahoan has the right to the following principles:
A Quality Public Education
Idaho can afford to fully fund public education so that taxpayers and parents are not forced to shell out hard-earned money due to inadequate funding. The Legislature prefers to fund tax cuts for the rich and corporations instead of public schools. Students that attend schools in rural areas deserve the same opportunity to a quality public education as students that receive in their education in more prosperous areas of the state. I am tired of seeing young children in my neighborhood having a 4-day school week because there simply is not enough money to keep the lights open 5 days per week. I will fight to ensure that our children have access to a quality public education if elected.
Idahoans should not have to choose between keeping food on the table and having healthcare. Idahoans across the state, including Bannock County, do not have access to affordable healthcare because Idaho refuses to take care of those individuals who belong in the healthcare gap. Expanding Medicaid is a sensible solution and will save money. The Legislature has dragged it feet long enough and people are still suffering due to their inaction. I will fight to ensure that Idahoans have access to affordable healthcare so that they can be treated at the first sign of illness instead of the ER if elected.
Idahoans struggle across the state to make ends meet due to low wages and increased living costs. The minimum wage in Idaho is $7.25 but that is not a living wage for families and yet people’s wages have not risen despite companies enjoying record profits. Corporations continue to focus on meeting the demands of their shareholders at the expense of their employees. The Legislature rewards this behavior by weakening the power of the unions and by giving big business tax cuts that do not benefit the average working individual. I will fight to ensure that all Idahoans have the right to a living wage if elected.
Access to Public Lands
Idahoans are lucky enough to be surrounded by public lands that provide incredible benefits for everyone to enjoy. Fishing is one of my favorite hobbies and I understand that access to public lands keeps it affordable. Public lands belong in public hands but special interests are trying to have Idaho take over our public lands instead. If the state were to manage these lands, the property would be sold to the highest bidder and closed to hunting, fishing, and public access. The Legislature has promised that public lands would not be sold but their promises are meaningless to many sportsman such as myself. I will to fight to ensure that all Idahoans have access to public lands if elected.
